The Vineyard

The vineyard, which is situated 17 miles (27 kms.) southeast of Bordeaux, on the hills of the right bank of the river VinesGaronne, consists of 36 hectares of which 32 hectares are under vines. Shaped like a half moon, the vineyard is on steep slopes which provides its natural drainage and the southeast to southwest exposure gives it optimal sunshine. The soil benefits from the harmonious mixture of gravel, limestone and clay subsoil.

It is a well recognised fact that Mille Anges has the finest soil in the entire region of "Premières Côtes de Bordeaux". For this reason, Mille Anges has the potential of producing a truly great Bordeaux, which one day will rank among the top Grands Crus de Bordeaux. This is the goal Heather van Ekris plans to achieve.

grapesThe vines range in age from 4 years to 40 years with an average age of approximately 20 years. 60% of the production is Merlot that gives the wine a fruity aroma, 20% is Cabernet Sauvignon which gives the wine the solidity and tannins, 20% is Cabernet  Franc which gives the wine a taste of red berries.

The work in the vineyard, be it pruning, leaf stripping by hand, or working the soil, has only one purpose in mind: to produce a wine worthy of the name "Mille Anges".
